Hi, I'm Ayla Hooper - I'm a freelance artist born in Australia and currently based in Luxembourg.
My work is deeply inspired by the media I loved growing up: pulp fiction comics like Weird Science and Tales from the Crypt, to science fiction films such as Akira and Blade Runner. My Illustrative style draws influence from visionary artists like Mœbius, Kilian Eng and Laurie Greasley.
I have been making art all my life, and began studying art and illustration formally during the COVID-19 pandemic.
My home city of Adelaide held some of the harshest lockdowns in the world, and cramped inside my small studio apartment I used art to explore my changing relationship with the spaces we live in. Particularly interested in the effect our environment has on us as individuals and the ways in which it reflects cultural identity, my work delves into themes of environmentalism, technology, science fiction and identity.
